Our Parish Mission Statement
St. Bonaventure Parish is a rural Christian community called to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. We fulfill our mission by our worship, our witness and our service to the people of the parish as well as to those in the wider community. Our task is to affirm the individual gifts of people of all ages in order to minister the Gospel in solidarity with people of good will.

“Without a vision, the people perish,” says the Old Testament Book of Proverbs. In order to keep a focus on where we are going, each year we choose as a Parish a theme or a “Vision Statement” that describes our focus. Last year our vision statement was “Called to Prayer, Study and Action.” This year, the our theme for 2008-2009 is “Disciples in Mission.” We are called to always remember that we are followers of Jesus who are on the way. The journey calls us to be faithful in our worship of God, loving in our service to the poor and wise in the witness of God’s truth. Our Mission Statement appears on the first page of every bulletin, the words are less a description of what we are than a challenge of what we are supposed to be. We ask the Lord for the grace to always remember that we are disciples (students) always willing to learn more about our faith. We are in mission (sent to serve) bringing gospel values into everyday life. May the Lord help us remember that each time we gather our call is to worship as one family, serve our brothers and sisters in need and try to live each day by the values that we profess as Catholic Christians. That’s right, it’s yet again another way to look at the three legs of the Christian stool: to worship, to witness and to serve.
